The research interests of Senior Engineer Dr. Magoon include applied mathematics, cheminformatics, bioinformatics, "next-generation" sequencing, quantum chemistry, and modelling and simulation. For his doctoral thesis in the Department of Chemical Engineering at MIT, Dr. Magoon developed software tools for automated reaction mechanism generation, with a focus on improving parameter estimation during the mechanism generation process; these tools were applied to construct a detailed chemical kinetic model for JP-10 combustion. His recent work includes efforts to further refine understanding of JP-10 combustion through high-level ab initio quantum chemistry calculations. He also develops "next-generation" sequence data analysis tools and develops inverse modeling capabilities for atmospheric transport and dispersion.
