Electronics Technician

Aerodyne Research, Inc. (ARI), a small R&D company has been providing research and development services and advanced instrument and software products to industrial, academic and government customers addressing national and international environmental, energy and defense challenges for 46 years.

We are currently seeking an Electronics Technician to join our spectroscopy manufacturing team.  This position is located in Billerica, MA.  

The technician who fills this position will be involved in the entire process of instrument production from construction and setup through performance testing. A successful technician will be capable of building an instrument from the ground up using their hands, and basic and custom tooling. The technician will also be capable of efficiently troubleshooting the instrumentation using a variety of electrical test equipment along with data processing. In addition the person will be expected to grow into a customer support roll where they will use their specific instrument skills to help with return repairs and field repairs.

Qualified candidates will possess a minimum 2 year Associate degree in engineering technology or equivalent, as well as 1-2 years of professional experience in electronic device construction and repair. Laser or optical instrumentation experience as well as strong computer skills are a plus.

Postdoctoral Research Scientist Position

The Center for Aerosol and Cloud Chemistry (CACC) at Aerodyne Research, Inc. in Billerica, MA is seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated atmospheric scientist to work on carbonaceous aerosol experiments and to help with instrument development of our Soot Particle Aerosol Mass Spectrometer (SP-AMS) and related techniques.

Specific projects may include laboratory studies of tar balls and black carbon containing particles and field work measuring biomass burning plumes. Instrument development projects characterizing the chemical information from the SP-AMS will be an important component. 

Requirements: Ph.D. in chemistry, aerosol physics, atmospheric sciences or a related discipline. The ideal candidate works well in group settings, and has excellent written and oral communication skills.  Aerosol mass spectrometer experience is desirable.   Other relevant experience may include:  mass spectrometry, aerosol instrument development, and laboratory and/or field experience characterizing the chemical, physical, and optical properties of carbonaceous particles.
