Postdoctoral Research Scientist

We are currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join our Center for Aerosol and Cloud Chemistry (CACC) at our Billerica, MA headquarters. The focus of the position will be twofold. One aspect will be related to Aerosol Mass Spectrometer field work including analysis of existing datasets and involvement in future deployments. The other aspect will be laboratory work with our production team to troubleshoot, optimize, and evaluate instruments under production and repair.

The ideal candidate will have received a PhD in chemistry, atmospheric sciences, or a related field within the past 2 years and will have significant experience with Aerosol Mass Spectrometry using Aerodyne instruments. 

Required Experience

  • AMS instrument operation and calibration
  • AMS data analysis including source apportionment using Positive Matrix Factorization
  • Instrument hardware development and troubleshooting
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)

Desired Experience

  • Instrument control electronics development and troubleshooting

The initial appointment is for a period of 1 year with the possibility of extension dependent on satisfactory progress and continued funding.

Electrical Engineer

The Center for Atmospheric and Environmental Chemistry (CAEC) is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated hands-on Electrical Engineer to join our team.

In this position, you will be working to design and optimize extremely sensitive, state of the art, atmospheric monitoring instruments that are being used around the world to study and mitigate global climate change.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Analyzing existing electrical systems, making improvements and adding functionality.
  • Participating in the full product development cycle
  • Circuit & PCB design
  • Prototype development
  • Testing & validation (QA)
  • Design documentation

Qualifications/Experience Include:

  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Data acquisition system design, low noise SMPS design and Analog filter design and signal processing
  • Analog, digital and mixed signal design
  • Temperature control systems
  • Embedded design: experience with C and Python
  • Familiarity with FPGA implementation, including programming
  • Proficiency with Altium designer
  • Troubleshooting electro-optical systems with technical staff
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Mechanical Assembly Technician

Aerodyne Research, Inc. The Center for Atmospheric and Cloud Chemistry (CACC) is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated hands on individual to join our team.

In this position, you will work with a research scientists and engineers to produce state of the art scientific instrumentation used for air quality measurements.

Qualifications Include:

  • 3+ year of experience building electronic and electro-mechanical assemblies
  • Previous experience in electronic soldering and use of machine shop tools
  • Tube fittings for gas handling highly desired
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proven ability to work cohesively in a fast-paced team environment.
