Aerodyne now developing drone assisted gas sampling methods

To characterize vertical concentration gradients Aerodyne has been using commercially available drones to loft gas sampling inlets.  The DJI Matrice 600 is now routinely being deployed in our field measurement campaigns to suspend a 3/16″OD teflon sampling line to altitudes as high as 200 feet.  Coupled with our fast response TILDAS instruments, vertical concentration gradients for many atmospherically important trace gases are easily obtained which help us characterize gas phase sources and transport.  Coner Daube, Research Associate in Aerodyne’s CAEC group, is now certified as a commercial drone pilot and is in charge of our drone assisted measurements in various field campaigns.
